Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University is located at the foothills of the great Himalayan Pir Panjal range in Rajouri district. The district of Rajouri lags behind noticeably in modern industrial facilities and technology development, but it has turned itself into BGSBU as a symbol of a promising future in becoming a place of distinctive higher learning. The major languages spoken in the Pir Panjal region are Gojri and Pahari. Unfortunately, both the languages failed to gain attention of the academic institution within and outside the state. It’s a matter of great justice for a University to promote, propagate and conserve the languages which is spoken most in the region where it is located.

The Jammu & Kashmir Government is all set to introduce Gojri & Pahari at UG and PG levels in institutions of Higher Education. In this backdrop; the scope and significance of the ‘Centre for Research in Gojri, Pahari and Kashmiri Languages’ increases many fold. It will provide an opportunity for students and faculty to interact with their counterparts in College education and provide them with requisite knack to meet the requirements of upcoming subjects.

Most of the time, languages go extinct because their speakers are absorbed by a dominant language or culture group. In the age of Globalization dominant with ICT and Corporate culture, the risk of languages being lost is high if it is not taught to younger generations. Language being important part of any society, if not preserved, future generations lose vital part of the its culture. Realizing these facts, it is of extreme importance to have a dedicated Centre for research, teaching and study of Gojri, Pahari and Kashmiri languages and culture.
